The ceremony took place on a warm, windy, and wonderfully wild day in June -- it was the solstice, the day after a full moon, and crashing waves served as the backdrop. A killdeer laid her eggs on the beach the night before, and periodically punctuated the day with her raucous concern. We were spared rain, but as the ceremony began, thunder rolled across the lake, adding to Paddy's and Chuck's drumming.

We were especially proud of our kids -- Katy (16) sang a Tori Amos song, Julie (12) read a Shel Silverstein poem she'd chosen, and Calvin (5) took special care to spit his gum into mom's hand before commencing to read his statement: "I love my mom. I love my dad. They are married and I am glad." We suspect his grandparents shared the sentiment.
